A great base level training designed to expose faculty, staff, and students to the basics of inclusion and social justice, including a focus on inclusive behavior, appropriate vocabulary, a review of microagressions, and self-reflection. Participants will be considered an Inclusive Islander & receive an exclusive sticker & pin to advertise this training. Features a built-in assessment approved for 2016-2017 student learning outcome 6.

Duration of one hour, and is best combined with Value Inclusion as a part two.

Value Inclusion builds on Create Inclusion by continuing the discussion of microagressions, with a special focus on our TAMU-CC student demographics, issues unique to this region, and additional discussion of gender & racial stereotypes. Involves a “stereotype smash” activity and reflection piece. Participants will be considered an Inclusive Islander & receive an exclusive sticker & pin to advertise this training. What is a microagression? Hear from the expert, Professor Derald Wing Sue HERE. Features a built-in assessment approved for 2016-2017 student learning outcome 6.

Duration of one hour.

A sociological discussion of the differences in race & ethnicity, as well as the presence those stereotypes hold in society & an individual’s life. Includes discussion of inclusive practices for students, faculty, and staff, and an examination of one’s own cultural upbringing. Participants will be considered an Inclusive Islander & receive an exclusive sticker & pin to advertise this training.

Designed to help student organizations how to develop, plan, and implement programming & other initiatives that are inclusive.

Inclusive Communication & Groups
Perfect for a staff or other group development, this training focuses on how we communicate with one another, which can be full of assumptions and misunderstandings. Highlights the way people can be saying the same thing with different words. Highly engaging and active training.

Duration of thirty minutes.

Difficult Controversial Conversations
This training helps students and staff to engage in conversations with others who have vastly different views from their own. This training defines controversial topics, provides tools for effective communication, stresses the importance of why diversity of thought and opinion is important, and allows attendees to practice through role play activities.

Safe Zone
Participants will be considered as “Safe Zone trained” after completion of this workshop and will receive exclusive stickers & pins to advertise this training. This training focuses on the appropriate use of vocabulary specific to the LGBTQ+ community, brief overview of history and current law, and a sociological perspective overview of sexual orientation, gender expression, and gender identity. Learn about the fallacy of the gender binary and how to best support LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff. All persons welcome. Features a built-in assessment approved for 2016-2017 student learning outcome 5.

Duration of two hours & 30 minutes.

Gender in General
A high-energy and interactive workshop highlighting the origins of gender stereotypes and how to understand an individual’s role when dealing with stereotypes. Also discusses some basics of appropriate terminology for those who do not identity within the gender binary, and more closely examples the fallacy of the gender binary. Cumulates in a stereotype dissolving activity!

The Modern Feminist

All are welcome in this discussion of the role of the modern woman. We discuss stereotypes, history of women’s rights in America, gender-based inequity and what the participant can do to change this! Participants will be considered an Inclusive Islander & receive a demarking sticker & pin to advertise this training.

 Men and Masculinity

All are welcome in this discussion of the role of the modern man. We will examine the ruse of the “standard” male identity, and help all participants better understand the changing role that the male identity holds in society. Participants will be considered an Inclusive Islander & receive a demarking sticker & pin to advertise this training.
